Application of Thermodynamics to Petrology and Ore Deposits - E-Book
Topics in Mineral Sciences Volume 2
Editor: H. G. Greenwood
On the eve of this fourth printing it is very gratifying to realize that there is a strongly perceived need for students of all ages to acquire an understanding of chemical thermodynamics. There are no new principles in this book which should hardly be surprising since there have been no new principles since 1876 when Gibbs published his paper "On the Equilibrium on Heterogeneous Substances". What this book does contain is a series of lectures given by ten authors at the Short Course on the subject sponsored by the Mineralogical Association of Canada in the spring of 1977. Many readers and students have contributed suggestions for minor corrections for which all of the authors are grateful. If there is anything novel in this book it is the personal approach adopted by each of the individual authors and the existence within the text of carefully worked out examples. The authors all feel that the only way to learn this subject is to work one's way in detail through actual problems. We are pleased that people are finding it useful and that it is going forward into the fourth printing.
